The role of parents in documenting a child’s progress

💐 Not all of a child’s progress takes place in the classroom. In fact, many of the most important manifestations appear at home or in daily life situations. Therefore, documentation from parents plays a very important role in the process of assessing a child’s language usage ability.

💐 When children start using English in life, the expressions are often very natural and sometimes fleeting. A child might suddenly name an object, sing back a line from a lesson, or say a simple sentence when communicating with relatives. These moments, though small, clearly reflect the transition from learning to using.

💐 Parent report, or the act of parents sharing these observations, helps teachers have more data to better understand a child’s development. This information cannot be fully collected only through classroom activities, as the classroom environment always has certain limitations.

💐 When parents and teachers monitor the learning process together, the assessment becomes more comprehensive. Teachers can adjust teaching methods based on what the child has demonstrated in reality, while parents also understand more clearly how their child is approaching the language.

💐 More importantly, documenting small improvements helps create motivation for the child. When children are encouraged and recognized, their confidence will increase, thereby promoting more proactive use of the language.
